The Stuttgart office a+r Architekten has realized a grain storage facility on the Swabian Alb that combines functional agriculture with contemporary architecture. The project demonstrates a trend: agricultural buildings are increasingly understood as a design task, not merely as purely functional structures. For architects and planners, this means new commissions in rural areas, where farmers are increasingly placing value on the aesthetics and regional impact of their farm buildings. The Swabian Alb is thus becoming a testing ground for a new generation of agricultural infrastructure.
